Mabel’s Labels Giveaway

Confession: I like to label things. One might call it an obsessive compulsive tendency but I prefer to think it is because I was a teacher who loved to have an organized classroom. The only part of my first grade classroom that wasn’t orderly were my students’ cubbies. Cubbies were their domain and often a mess of forgotten papers, broken crayons, chewed on pencils, and abandoned clothes. Lots and lots of clothes!

Fast forward to motherhood and the year that Little Miss Techie entered preschool. No one had to tell me to label her stuff. Out came the Sharpie to mark everything with her name. I was determined not to have a stray mitten, lost sweater, or displaced hat in the school’s lost and found bin.

Thanks to Mabel’s Labels you can label your child’s belongings without the worry of using your best teacher handwriting on your kids’ stuff. You can obsessively mark everything by slapping a label on it which will survive the dishwasher, microwave, or washer and dryer. They are also UV resistant.

Win a Camp/School Pack of Mabel’s Labels to use for the rest of the school year, for summer camp, or for next fall. The Mabel's Labels Camp/School Pack is a $34 value and consists of:

  • 15 Sticky Labels
  • 40 Iron-Ons or 50 Tag Mates™
  • 8 Shoe Labels
  • 2 Bag Tags

To enter:
  • Leave a comment about how you prevent your child’s belongings from getting lost.
  • For a second entry, subscribe to the Tech Savvy Mama RSS or e-mail feed and leave a comment letting me know you have subscribed.
All comments must be received by Midnight on Tuesday, January 13.

Special thanks to The Giveaway Connection for providing this giveaway!

I totally fail at labeling. It doesn't help that we often buy previously owned clothing (especially coats) that already have other names written on the tags. I think the only reason more items haven't gone missing is that I'm vigilant about checking that my son has his jacket whenever I pick him up from school. If he doesn't, it's straight back to the room to get it.

(Gloves are another matter, and we go through at least two pair a winter.)

What an awesome product! I would love to get my hands on these! It would end the clothing mix ups between my girls

My current labeling system does not work so well. I usually just write my daughter's name in ball point pen on a piece of masking tape and stick it into the coat/hat/mitten because that's the only thing I can find as I'm rushing out the door.

Danetta said...

for my son's lunch bag, he didn't want me to write his name on it with permanent marker...like i do all his other stuff, so i went to the craft store and got a package of those plastic keychains that you can insert a picture into and i printed out his name on some paper and put it in the keychain, then put the keychain on the handle of his lunchbag.

I'm probably majorly pushing my luck to even try to win another of your awesome prizes, but I unable to prevent anything from getting lost! Seriously, I'm terrible at labeling Lucas's things. I always think because it is a small daycare that his stuff won't get lost. But, that doesn't take into consideration that all 5 of them seem to have the same Dora or Diego cup, etc. These would be fabulous! I've been subscribed to your feed (first RSS now Google Reader) since I found you :)

Luckily since Princess is almost 4 there isn't too much I need to worry about her losing at day care. I packed my daughter's extra clothes in a gallon size zip lock bag that has her name written on it. But her coat and snow pants are labeled with a Sharpie. Legible but not as pretty as these labels.

i lose their stuff all the time b/c i don't label stuff. mabel help a mama out

Elaine A. said...

I have labels that ordered ages ago when my oldest was in daycare that I still use on his stuff but I NEED some for my youngest!

And sometimes I just break out the ole Sharpie! ; )

Busy Mom said...

These would be awesome, I use Sharpies but I am so forgetful!

The Clever Mom said...

I've usually just used a sharpie :) Mostly I ensure my son doesn't lose his stuff by engendering a high degree of desire for any hats and things - he never lets them out of his sight then! Haha! I would love some real labels, though :)

Me and my permanent marker are best friends! Uhmmmm, not really! As my son gets older he doesn't want me "decorate" with my handy dandy marker! The labels would be perfect for us. No more Mama and marker!

I love labels too. I personally own two label makers. I keep things from getting lost by obsessively checking on them, AND, more importantly, by not letting them take too many precious toys and things out of the house.

Sharpies are a mom of boys' best friend. Our last name is sharpied in and on almost everything! In addition, all the neighborhood moms are on Facebook so we're constantly posting our "Missing" items- for example, today I posted "missing silver helmet." If you have seen it, please label and return.

Candice said...

I have 2 boys and they will be wearing each other's hand-me-downs. I use a Sharpie to write our last name on things! :)

I can't stand to lose anything!

I've just started the process of labelling everything with Mabel's labels. However even labels don't work when your child throws their mitts away while in tow...my trick is those mitts with strings and if you don't have the strings already attached, some strong yarn does the trick!

I use Mabel Labels for all my kids' items to prevent anything from getting lost. I use them on my daughter's ballet shoes that way they do not get mixed up with all the other ballet shoes that get taken off when starting the Acro class after the ballet class

Susan Smith said...

I love the shoe labels. My daughter's ballet shoes never gets mixed up with all the others in her class thanks to her name being on it using the mabel label labels

Kimberly said...

I've used the white address labels that I print from home - but they wash off and don't stick well to cloth items. Thanks for the contest! I hope I win!!!!

I sneaked a sheet of my own labels into the laser printer at work to get some kinda-sorta-permanent name labels for my daughter's daycare stuff. I also have a special fuschia Sharpie just for labelling the ziploc bags that I send the (always full outfits!) spare clothes to school in. Mabel's Labels would be a treat to another compulsive labeller!

No kidding! I bought my first set before school this year and they are fantastic..all the clothes still have labels like it's the first day, laundry every week hasn't touched 'em. This is the first year that my kids haven't lost all their stuff at camp as well, it really does work. I put them in their books and inside their backpacks and duffels.. They are so worth the money.

Tracye said...

I use the old-school way: Sharpie markers! On EVERYTHING! It really bugs me when the marker bleeds from the tags to the clothing, though.

julied said...

I use a Sharpie most often, but they just don't work well on hats, mitten, or dark clothing. Iron on clothing labels would work great.

I love to label!! These would be great for little dude's clothes and stuff for school!

This sounds obvious, but I try to teach my kids to keep track of their things if we're taking them out of the house. Labels definitely help, but a kid who says "mom, where's my sippy?" is even better...

I used to be a sharpie girl but I hated how it looked. Then I found Mabel's on Facebook of all things! I love the Camp Pack. We got it for our son for school (18 mos) but now we have a little girl starting in the next couple of weeks and need to make sure her cute little pink stuff comes home with us!

Emilie said...

I'm not so great at labeling unfortunately. So far it hasn't been an issue because my boys' daycare is fairly small but once oldest starts attending preschool I'm going to have to reconsider this. These labels would be prefect! Up until now we've only lost mittens and socks but even as an adult I manage to do that pretty well myself.:)

Hi, I have used another brand of labels (babylabels) for my big kid, but I have no labels yet for the baby. This would be a good test drive to sample a different brand of labels. I've put the dishwasher-safe labels on rubbermaid stuff, kid cups, even kid pool toys, and I've done iron on clothing labels in the clothes that go to school.

If I were doing it over, I might just do the last name, so the labels would be accurate for both kids when they become hand-me-downs.

I'm not so good at labeling things but I'm definitely a freak about checking to make sure we have everything every time I bring my daughters anywhere. When we get up to leave I always double and triple check to make sure something hasn't been left behind - using these labels would probably give me some peace of mind that even if something did get left that I would be able to get it back!

Thanks!
